Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research is one of the main missions of the Neuroscience Major.  We involve undergraduates in all aspects of our research. This is an important way that we strive to meet the “Top 25” goals that have been established by Chancellor Cheek. The Carnegie Foundation classifies the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as a “Research 1” Institution. This categorization means that the research enterprise is a key element that defines UTK and shapes the quality educational experiences that are available to its students.

Finding a Lab for Undergraduate Research

To help you find a laboratory for “Independent Research” we have provided below a list of participating institutions and individuals as well as links to relevant web pages.  Follow these links to learn more about the research being conducted.  Then contact the person whose research is interesting to you by email and request a meeting to talk about a potential project. You may contact more than one person to learn about their projects and then decide which one you would like to work with. You can then sign up for independent research under the relevant course number listed in the undergraduate catalog.
